Something in the stairwell, I saw it but I can't tell
They were headed for the exit, it was a little bit depressing
Something on the freeway, mumbling 'bout new wave
Stricter than my seatbelt, baby you're a hard sell
I don't think that it's funny I don't think that it's fair
You got him burying dreams and bleaching his hair
I don't think that it's good, I don't think that it's right
You got him changing his rules and changing your spare
Something 'bout a rumor, your mouth is a tumor
I don't feel like pretending that I'm not waiting for the ending
So give up on the grapevine, you're ready and it's time
C'mon get your hand held, I'll see you in the stairwell
I don't think that it's funny I don't think that it's fair
You got him burying dreams and bleaching his hair
I don't think that it's good, I don't think that it's right
You got him changing his rules and changing your spare
I don't think that it's funny I don't think that it's fair
You got him burying dreams and bleaching his hair
I don't think that it's good, I don't think that it's right
You got him changing his rules and changing your spare

The Same

I can’t tell who’s genuine and who’s just sitting in,
To see who else is there
I’m aware it’s no way to be living so deliriously,
And never feeling sad,
No I’m never feeling sad
And I’ll be unfazed by your name change,
Staying the same just to drive you insane
I finally learned, it only took years and the blank stares of my peers,
They hardly blinked an eye
As you strolled in, did you count the yes-men raining from the balcony?
Are you ever going back?
No I’m never going back
And I’ll be unfazed by your name change,
Staying the same just to drive you insane
I know that you want it over, over, I can clearly see it taking you again
Patience is a virtue but breathing is too
And I’ll be unfazed by your name change,
Staying the same just to drive you insane

For Forgetting

Ohhh, the place you've found is it fit to call a home, home?
And if so, then turn your back to let all of us know, know
Don't put your head down, hide what you've found
Don't lower the bar you're falling too far
And your grandfather's threats are the least of my concerns
It shows in your complexion, you've got a viral infection, an infestation
And bone structure's enough to tie one down
But the great defect has got me, and there are no barren brides to fill the gown
Ohhh, the place you've found is it fit to call a home, home?
And if so, then turn your back to let all of us know, know

Carport

The carport is catching fire, the neighbors an enraged choir
But we can't hear a word, or recall a single thing that has occurred
Filthy, filthy floors keep it easy to stay indoors
We are feral in this place, with a key under the mat just in case
But we are sold, sold, sold, sold, sold, sold,
Sold, sold, so sold, sold, sold, so sold
On the drive, painted lines of the home, we now own,
On the drive, painted lines of the home, we now own,
On the drive, painted lines of the home, we now own,
On the drive, painted lines of the home, we now own
But we are sold, sold, sold, sold, sold, sold,
Sold, sold, so sold, sold, sold, so sold

You know I wasn't even mad you kept me waiting, it was a floodgate of joy
I was carried by the breeze through open windows, trying hard to be coy
She caught my eye at a perfectly terrible time
When she makes up what I lack there is no going back
Evening was the lung of expectation and the driveway was full
We were doing fine with no crescendo, we were keeping control
She caught my eye at a perfectly terrible time
When she makes up what I lack there is no going back
You know I had a little feeling you might show up, you were there just in time
And I never have received a better greeting than in the ivy vines
All of our practice was plastered on a poster, we were posed to perform
With casual glances, masked advances, outdoor seating, and the weather was warm
She caught my eye at a perfectly terrible time
When she makes up what I lack there is no going back
Songs about a residence, youthfulness in our defense, now that we're grown we live alone, but I will always call those years my home
She caught my eye at a perfectly terrible time
When she makes up what I lack there is no going back

Unwind

A black hole in the center of this couch, a refrain in the dialogue we spout,
Closer and closer as the hour strikes twelve, are these the standards we set for ourselves?
You talk out all of my doubt, there’s not a thing to be worried about,
Darker and darker, are you feeling the weight? All of these questions
I could ask you all night, can you see both sides?
I could never love someone who deceives themselves so well
Foggy, the glass of your mind, you don’t see the problem you just want to unwind,
But that’s what’s expected in this time and place, eyes on the ceiling and guilt on your face
Have you heard anything you’ve said? You’ve pledged your allegiance to free will instead
Darker and darker, are you feeling the weight? All of these questions
I could ask you all night, can you see both sides?
I could never love someone who deceives themselves so well
